Biryani on the Balcony
The weather in central Iowa has been impossibly gorgeous lately. Trees have burst forth in lush greens, blossoming flowers catch the light and fill the air with their sweetness. The corn and soybeans have sent up bright green shoots, transforming the brown barren fields of winter into a dazzling, multi-hued landscape. And the sun shines and shines and shines, late into the evenings. On just such an evening, Kate cooked up a vegetable biryani, with salted cucumber slices and yogurt on the side. We enjoyed our meal on her balcony, looking out over the cornfields on the edge of town. It’s a good life.
